Dress Code


The administration will reserve the right to judge on all matters concerning appearance/dress code.  If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school.  Loss of instructional time due to a dress code violation will be minimized.  Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.


If in doubt as to the appropriateness of the article of clothing or other aspect of the dress and grooming regulations, contact the principal in advance for an interpretation to avoid corrective action. The administration reserves the right to adjust the dress code as needed at any time with prior notification.


The dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption of the instructional environment, and minimize safety hazards.  Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:


  1. Clothing must be neat and clean in appearance and appropriate to the gender of the student.             
    °Shorts and skirts are allowed to be worn and should extend to a moderate length.
          ° Clothing must be worn in the manner for which it was intended.  (Ex., shirts inside out backwards, or off shoulder suspenders are prohibited.)
  2. Jewelry and accessories are not to be noisy, distracting, disruptive, or offensive in any way.  Jewelry for any pierced area of the body, other than the ears, is not permitted.  Boys may not wear earrings.
  3. Vulgar or obscene patches, and suggestive lettering or insignia of organizational products referring to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sex, weapons, death /grim reaper or gang-related paraphernalia, gang colors, or like dress are not permitted.
  4. Hats, caps, head socks, hair nets, skull caps, and hoods are excluded from being worn except as specified by admin.
  5. All students must wear appropriate shoes designed for outdoor and athletic use.            ° skating shoes and house shoes are prohibited.
    ° Tennis shoes/sneakers must be worn during PE periods.
  6. The waistband of pants, shorts, and skirts must be worn at the natural waist.  Low rider pants are not permitted.  Undergarments may NOT be visible at any time. (boxers, undershorts, etc.) 
  7. Clothing may not be too tight for free movement, comfortable sitting, reaching, or bending positions.
    °The student's torso must be covered at all times.
    °Clothing that has holes in it that reveals the students skin or undergarments are excluded to wear to school.

  8. Hair shall be clean, well-groomed, and out of the eyes and shall be styled in a way that is neither distracting nor conspicuous.  Coloring of hair, other than natural colors, will not be permitted. Spiked hair cannot stand more than two inches above the head.
